In The Wilds Of My Back Yard.....

It was nice out a couple of days ago...I had the kitchen doors open, when I noticed something sitting at the back of the yard at the base of the trees. I looked closer and was surprised to see a hawk standing there...eating lunch. I didn't want to look too closely...but I'm sure that the hawk's meal was definitely the reason that there were small white feathers floating all over the yard. Of course...I ran for the camera... hawks don't usually come close enough to the house to get a good picture...but I figured that I'd try. He didn't mind when I stepped onto the deck...and he was calm when I walked down the steps and onto the grass. I was thinking that I might be able to get really close when he actually stopped eating to take a good look at me.....then I started wondering if hawks attack nosey people. But he must have thought better of it and just took off with the remains of his lunch held in his talons? claws? I'm not sure what they're called. I did get some photos of him....not perfect...but some of him sitting and staring at me...and one of him taking off.

Very cool.

I have seen a hawk sit on the playset and watch. I'm sure he is the reason the bunny rabbit is gone. I hope he likes snakes.
